Since 2022, my iOS apps are no longer available as I decided to move 100% to the web.
I really appreciate everyone who reached out to let me know how much my apps make a difference to their musical journeys. One day I would like to re-make them all for the web so that even non-iOS devices can run them; if you'd like to be notified about that, add your email here:
How can I transfer the apps from my old device to a new one?
I thought this was not possible anymore since they're no longer available from "Purchase history", but I managed to get something working using iMazing—download, install, and open the app, then:
Four steps
- Connect the old device to your computer via USB cable and unlock if necessary; it should then show up under "AVAILABLE".
- Tap the old device name (mine is "Rosano's iPhone 5s"), then go to "Manage Apps", then "Library" where you can right-click on any app and select "Download". This will add it to the iMazing Library and from there you can install it to other devices.
- Tap "Done" to close the old device, then repeat step 1 and 2 with the new device.
- Finally, you can right-click on any app from the Library on the new device and select "Install"; enter your Apple ID password if necessary.
This was enough for me to get the app running on a new device. Because I restored the whole device from a backup via iTunes, my previous data was there in tact. See the hints below for transferring app data.
Other hints:
Saving a copy of the app forever
After downloading an app to the iMazing Library (stept 2), it's possible to right-click it and select "Export .IPA". This is a way to have your own copy of app that nobody can take away from you. It could still 'stop working' if Apple decides, but you at least have the file until then. This would be a good measure to take if step 2 stops working at some point.
Transferring app data
From the "Device" screen in "Manage Apps", it seems possible to export and import any app's data by right-clicking on the app. I never tried this, but it could be useful if you didn't setup your new device from a full iTunes backup.
More about iMazing
It is quite 'amazing' indeed that you can do all this even with the free trial. If it worked for you, please consider supporting them by buying a license.
I learned most of the above from their guide and this video.
AudioScrub
Can you recommend alternatives?
You can search for 'slow down music' on the App Store. I have tried AudioStretch, CAPO, and Amazing Slow Downer.
How do I delete songs?
The songs files are cleared automatically, and it isn't yet possible to delete manually, but everyone is asking about this so I hope to add it in a future version. If you are running low on space, you can shake your device while the song list is open and the copies of your songs will be cleared from Remix Edition but will remain in the Music app; your key/speed/loop settings will not be deleted.
Why doesn't the music library show up?
It should ask automatically, but if not, you probably need to give permission to AudioScrub in "Settings", "Privacy", "Media & Apple Music".
How do I export songs with the changed pitch or speed?
This is not yet possible, but everybody is asking for it, so I hope to add it in a future version.
How do I import songs from other apps?
For now it's like this (using Dropbox as an example):
- Find the file inside the Dropbox app
- Tap the song
- Press the … button
- Select Export > Open in… > "AudioScrub"
Is it possible to import songs from Apple Music streaming
As far as I know, only Apple apps (no 3rd party apps) can access non-purchased Apple Music files – it's probably for copyright reasons that they don't allow other apps to import them. I'm hoping that Apple will change this in the future… If you only need to do basic looping, you can try the PLAY Edition, which is like a remote control for Apple's app; it should work even while streaming Apple Music tracks.
When importing songs from another app, where does it go?
Songs imported from other apps can be found in the 'Documents' list: tap the songs button (top left) and then tap the documents button (second one from the top left). You can swipe to delete.
How do you change the speed?
There are up and down arrow buttons that you can press once a song is playing.
How do you loop?
Once you create the loop, tap the Show Extended Loop Controls button (looks like an ellipsis…), then tap the Create Region button. You will see your selected area above the waveform for future reference (it's tappable), and then you can change the loop and add another one.
Why doesn't the PLAY Edition loop consistently?
The looping is actually "fake" because it's only sending commands to the Music app, which does not really support looping. I want to add a feature that prevents sleeping so that at least if the app is open the loop will work. For now, it is necessary to keep the app open and active.
The Remix edition is able to loop perfectly in the background while using other apps or during sleep.
What does the trainer do?
It can be used to practice something in all twelve keys. For example, you start by looping something and then tap the diamond to select a transposition scheme; DoFa is going up in fourths, DoSo is in fifths, DoRa and DoTi are in semitones, and rand is random.
Quick Record
How is remaining time calculated?
The ranges are based on available space. You can find a breakdown in "Settings", "General", "About" under "Capacity / Available" or in "Settings", "General", "iPhone Storage"
