If you find yourself using a digital system and saying

I didn't understand.

I'm not good at computers.

I should have known.

take comfort in the fact that it isn't your fault. The system was designed with affordances that (knowingly or unknowingly) encourage and discourage specific outcomes. If there is a disconnect between what the system claims to offer and what someone is trying to accomplish, it is the designer's fault.
